When Two is Less than One

When we consider God’s desire in creating the church, we can better understand His grief when the church is less than One, or divided. God created us to be one: one body of believers on whom and through whom He can shower His love. Then enters Satan with a plan of his own: render the Body hardened and unresponsive to God. Satan’s weapon: us—a bump by our brother results in tenseness, tragically numbing us to the soft embrace of our Father. If left alone, the tense, hardened areas crumble away, fragmenting what must be One. The Body, created to bring joy and fellowship instead brings grief and brokenness.

When God called us to be the church, He recognized our vulnerability toward our brother. So naturally—or supernaturally—He equips us completely with His word and His spirit. One Body: Experiencing Unity in the Church is a study designed to create an environment for God to reveal Himself and His desire for unity, as the Body grows to attain “the whole measure of the fullness of Christ”. As for growing pains, pray for them. They are an indication of life in the Body. Remember, however, they should grow us up, into Him, and not out, away from our brother.
